The game centers around the use of a machine dubbed the " Animus ", which allows its user to view the genetic memories of his or her ancestors, centering around the protagonist, a bartender named Desmond Miles. Assassin's Creed received primarily positive reviews, for both its story and its gameplay, and received several awards at 's E3.
The overall goal of the game is to rise through the ranks of the Assassin Order by carrying out a series of assassinations given by the leader of the Order, Al Mualim. Other side memories include tracking and killing Templarsflag collecting, and saving citizens who are being threatened by city guards. High profile commands increase alertness at a greater level and include free-runningattacking foes, and high profile assassination attempts.
This game introduces air assassinations and chain-kills. To do so, one must equip the Hidden Blade, climb to the top of a short building or hang from a ledge at an appropriate point, then look back, hold the high profile button and finally, press the attack button toward the desired target while running, hanging from a ledge, performing a wall eject or remaining close to the target from a suitable height.
For chain-kills, one must equip the Hidden Blade while locked onto an enemy; hold the high profile button and counter-attack them with the Blade, and while another enemy reacts in surprise or is distracted, dash forward to assassinate them in turn.
If there is complete desynchronization, the current memory that Desmond is experiencing dematerializes and restarts at the last stable checkpoint. These glitches can be used to help identify targets and if the player reacts quickly enough, may be used to provide other vantage points during cut-scenes. Desmond Miles, a bartender, is kidnapped by the company Abstergo Industries for use as a test subject in the "Animus," a device that can simulate genetic memory.
After experiencing a few problems, Desmond exits the virtual machine and Vidic briefs him about the Animus' inner workings, before initializing the machine's tutorial program.
In the following commotion, Malik's brother is killed, and Malik's left arm is crippled and later amputated. With men on both sides killed, he discovers that Robert's last plot is to attempt to unite the Christian and Muslim forces against their new common enemy, the Assassins themselves.
He denounces religion and other seemingly supernatural events e. Further, he learns that the modern-day Assassins had tried to rescue him before the memory had completed but had failed. Following this, Desmond was to be killed after an order from a high-ranking Templar, Alan Rikkinbut Lucy Stillman saves him from death and, at one point, tucks her ring finger into her palm, referring to the Assassins' tradition of cutting off the finger.
The messages all deal with various forms of the end of the world from different cultures, including several references to 21 Decemberthe date that Abstergo plans to launch a satellite that will "permanently end the war.
Finally, the game ends with Desmond wondering what the images all mean and who could have drawn them. The project evolved into the darker and more historically accurate Assassin's Creed.
In Octoberan IGN Australia interview described the lead character's ability to climb and free-run as being designed by the individuals who developed the mechanic for the Prince of Persia series. In DecemberKristen Bell, who voiced Abstergo researcher and employee Lucy Stillman, gave the first concrete information about the plot, confirming a focus on genetic memory and a corporation's search for descendants of an assassin.
The game initially had a multiplayer mode, though it was cut during development. The musical score for Assassin's Creed was composed by Jesper Kyd and the entire soundtrack was developed to "capture the gruesome atmosphere of medieval warfare but also be edgy and contemporary. Many of the tracks also contain choruses and vocal tracks in Latin to cement the darker elements of the game and the time period of the game's setting.
Six tracks were released on the Ubisoft website for those who purchased the game.
The soundtrack is also available on iTunes and Amazon. Developed by Gamelofta mobile version was also released for the iPhone and iPod Touch in April It depicts a centuries-old struggle, now and then, between the Assassinswho fight for peace with free will, and the Templarswho desire peace through control. The series features historical fictionscience fiction and charactersintertwined with real-world historical events and figures.
For the majority of time players control an Assassin in the past history, while they also play as Desmond Miles or an Assassin Initiate in the present day, who hunt down their Templar targets. The video game series took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol while building upon concepts from the Prince of Persia series. A new story and time period are introduced in each entry, and gameplay elements evolve from the previous one.
There are three story arcs in the series. For the first five main games, the framing story is set in and features series protagonist Desmond Miles who uses a machine called the Animus and relives the memories of his ancestors to find a way to avert the apocalypse.
In games up until and including Assassin's Creed SyndicateAbstergo employees and Assassin initiates recorded genetic memories using the Helix software, helping the Templars and Assassins find new Pieces of Eden in the modern world. Main games of Assassin's Creed are set in an open world and presented from the third-person perspective where the protagonists take down targets using their combat and stealth skills with the exploitation of the environment.
Players have freedom to explore the historical settings as they finish main and side quests. Apart from single-player missions, some games also provide competitive and cooperative multiplayer gameplay. While main games are produced for major consoles and desktop platforms, multiple spin-off games are released for consoles, mobiles, and handhelds platforms. The main games in the Assassin's Creed video game series have received generally positive reviews for their ambition in visuals, game design, and narratives, with criticism towards the yearly release cycle and frequent bugs.
The spin-off games received mixed to positive reviews. The video game series has received multiple awards and nominations, including Game of the Year awards. Assassin's Creed was adapted into a filmwhich received negative reviews. A series of art books, encyclopedias, comics, novelizations, and novels haven been published.
All of the media take place within the same continuity as the main video game series. It included a number of parkour moves and combat. The Sands of Time was a critical and financial success, leading publisher Ubisoft to request Ubisoft Montreal to develop a sequel, aiming for the next console generation.
The Ubisoft Montreal team decided on taking the gameplay from The Sands of Time into an open world approach, taking advantage of the improved processing power to render larger spaces and crowds. Narratively, the team wanted to move away from the Prince being someone next in line for the throne but to have to work for it; combined with research into secret societies led them to focus on the Assassinsheavily borrowing from the novel Alamut.
They developed a narrative where the player would control an Assassin that served as a bodyguard for a non-playable Prince, leading them to call this game Prince of Persia: Assassin. Ubisoft was not happy with a Prince of Persia game without the Prince as the playable character, but this led to the marketing division to suggest the name Assassin's Creedplaying off the creed of the Assassins, "nothing is true; everything is permitted".
Ubisoft Montreal ran with this in creating a new intellectual propertyeliminating the Prince and creating the conflict between the Assassins and Templar Knights. Further, in postulating what other assassinations they could account for throughout human history, they came onto the idea of genetic memory and created the "Animus" device and modern storyline elements, which further allowed them to explain certain facets of gameplay, such as accounting when the player fails a mission, in the same way they had done in The Sands of Time.
Following release of the first Assassin's Creed inUbisoft Montreal and other Ubisoft studios use the series to present games from various historical periods, striving for historical accuracy while conceding some elements for gameplay. The Assassin's Creed games primarily revolve around the rivalry and conflict between two ancient secret societies — the Assassinswho represent freedom, and the Knights Templarwho represent order; as well as their indirect relation to an ancient species pre-dating humanityreferred to within the games as "those who came before" or "precursors", who were technologically advanced and claimed to be the creators of humanity, before their society and much of Earth's biosphere were destroyed by a massive solar storm thousands of years before the games.
The games' are split between various real-world settings in different chronological periods - the present, modern day era, and various historical settings, the latter including a variety of historical characters given fictionalized involvement in the conflict between the two secret societies. We're watching " Tiger King " on Netflix for sure. Although somewhat predictable, it had its moments where we were kept guessing. A follow-up could develop some of the minor characters more. Sign In. The film is set in the same universe as the video games but features an original story that expands the series' mythology, taking place during the Spanish Inquisition.
Filming began in late August and concluded in January It generally received negative reviews from critics that were primarily aimed towards the plot and writing, though some considered it an improvement over previous videogame film adaptations. Inadolescent Callum "Cal" Lynch finds his mother killed by his father, Joseph, a modern-day Assassin.
InCal is sentenced to death for murdering a pimpbut his execution is faked by the Abstergo Foundation, which then takes him to their research facility in Madrid. He is told that the Templars are searching for the Apple of Edenin order to eliminate violence by using the Apple's code to control humanity's free will.
Sofia, Alan's daughter and the head scientist, reveals that Cal is a descendant of Aguilar, the last person confirmed to be in possession of the Apple. She puts Cal in the Animus, a machine which allows him to relive and the scientists to observe Aguilar's genetic memories, so that Abstergo can learn what he did with the Apple.
Aguilar and Maria intercept the Templars, but are overpowered and captured by Torquemada's enforcer, Ojeda. Cal is quickly pulled out of the Animus by Sofia.
Cal encounters other Assassin descendants held captive at the facility, most of whom are suspicious of his motives, with the exceptions of Lin, the descendant of a 16th-century Chinese Assassin known as Shao Jun; and Moussa, the descendant of an 18th-century Haitian Assassin named Baptiste and a key leader. Cal begins experiencing hallucinations, dubbed "the Bleeding Effect", of both Aguilar and Joseph. Cal and Sofia build a rapport during their sessions; she confides that her mother was likewise murdered by an Assassin, sharing his hatred of the Brotherhood of which his father is a member.
Back in the Animus, Aguilar and Maria are scheduled for execution at an auto da fe but he manages to free them, leading to a rooftop chase in which they escape through an Assassin "Leap of Faith".
Cal's mind reacts violently to the session and he is temporarily paralyzed. When Cal learns that his father is also at the facility, he confronts Joseph over his mother's death. Joseph informs him that the Bleeding Effect will allow modern Cal to possess Aguilar's combat abilities. He also learns that his mother was an Assassin, and she chose to die by Joseph's hand rather than be forced into the Animus.
Unconvinced, Cal vows to destroy the Assassins by finding the Apple. Meanwhile, Alan is pressured by a Templar Elder, Ellen Kaye, to shut down the multibillion-dollar Animus Project because they have already "won Reaffirmed by his encounter with his father, Cal willingly enters the Animus once again, whereupon Aguilar and Maria ambush a meeting between Muhammad and Torquemada.
They succeed in killing the Templars and retrieving the Apple, though Ojeda captures Maria in order to force Aguilar to surrender it. Instead, Maria chooses death, and stabs herself on Ojeda's blade. Aguilar kills him and escapes through another Leap, the force of which causes the Animus to violently malfunction.
Aguilar gives the Apple to Christopher Columbuswho promises to take it to his grave. When Moussa and the modern Assassin prisoners start a riot in order to escape, Alan orders the facility purged. This article is in desperate need of a revamp.

The Assassin's Creedoften referred to as the Creedwas a code and guiding philosophy of the Assassin Order upheld from the High Middle Ages until the modern era. It restricted unnecessary slaughter of innocents, preserved the reputation of oneself and of the Order, and was meant to create peace not only within the worldbut within the individual.
Al Mualimone of the Mentors of the Order, once remarked that "[they] are nothing if [they] do not abide by the Assassin's Creed. He went on to explain that the Creed was an idea, and even if all records of it were destroyed, it could eventually be reinvented by another.
The Creed mainly emphasized three simple moral tenets that focused on ensuring a successful mission, mastery of emotions, and the safety of the Brotherhood. Be unseen. The Assassins' aim was to get close to their target stealthily and escape just as quickly. In more ancient times, Assassins aimed to perform ostentatious, awe-inspiring assassinations, usually in public.
The greatest illusion from such an assassination was that the Assassin seemingly materialized from nowhere, killed a corrupt public figure, and vanished into the depths of the crowd or environment.
If an Assassin was spotted while stalking their target, the supernatural effect would be diluted, and it became more difficult for the Assassin to reach his target. Though seemingly hypocritical, the ironies did not undermine the Assassins' cause. Rather, they demonstrated the way in which they embraced contradiction, "that one may be two things — opposite in every way — simultaneously. Ezio Auditore da Firenze once spoke of the maxim at length with Sofia Sartorwho found it rather cynical.
However, he told her that the maxim was not a doctrine to be followed, but merely an observation of the world. In detail, he explained that "To say that nothing is true, is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization.
To say that everything is permitted, is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic". This maxim was spoken by all Assassins present at every new Assassin's induction into the Orderand in its original Arabic by Ezio as he presided over each ceremony. He elaborated that "Ideals too easily give way to dogma. Dogma becomes fanaticism, Only we can decide whether the road we walk carries too high a toll.
All that we do, all that we are, begins and ends with ourselves". On most occasions, the breaking of one or more of the tenets of the Creed led to the execution of the involved Assassin, though there have been exceptions. During the Siege of Masyaf inAhmad Sofian was captured and interrogated by the Saracens about the identity of the Assassin who infiltrated the camp. Ahmad broke and gave the name of Umar Ibn-La'Ahad.
Umar himself also technically broke the first and third tenets as well by killing a Saracen nobleman, who was not his target and which resulted in the Saracens electing to continue the siege unless he surrendered himself, which would have resulted in many Assassin deaths.
Umar elected to give himself up for execution to save his fellow Assassins. However, the execution was only an illusion, as Al Mualim wished to grant him a second chance. Though he was successful, a team of Assassins later tracked Perotto down, and executed him as punishment. Aroundone of Ezio's Ottoman apprentices broke the first tenet after mistaking a cleric for the Templar Cyril of Rhodes and rashly assassinating him. Instead of punishing him, Ezio ordered him to reflect on his mistake and gave him the chance to redeem himself when they confronted Cyril again.
Ironically, Ezio himself broke the first tenet indirectly during his visit to Derinkuyuwhen he ignited the Templars' cache of gunpowder to destroy it, resulting in a firestorm that engulfed the underground city and killed many of its civilians. During this time, an Assassin of Jerusalem broke the Creed, and the Ottoman Assassins were asked to intervene. Despite his treachery, the other Assassins of his guild asked that he be executed covertly with a crossbow. Inthe French Assassin Council expelled Arno Dorian from the Brotherhood for repeatedly assassinating targets without consulting them.
He was accused of compromising the Brotherhood and pursuing a personal vendetta. Together, they developed a creed emphasizing two simple tenets: to work in the shadows and to kill only those who deserve it. Since the targets were of both Saracen and Crusader origins, their respective leaders, Saladin and Richard I of Englandwould likely have been more willing to join together in order to combat a considerable, new threat: the Assassins. Robert attempted to convince Richard to join forces with Saladin in an attack against Masyaf; wherein he planned to recover the Piece of Eden that he had lost to Al Mualim at Solomon's Temple.
When Ezio Auditore killed Vieri de' Pazzi during one of his early assassinations, he showed disrespect to his corpse, cursing him and calling for his everlasting suffering. The Assassin Brotherhoodalso known as the Assassin Orderthe Hidden Ones during its early years and the Hashashin during the Crusades, is an organized order of assassins and sworn enemies of the Templar Orderagainst whom they fought a continuous, recondite war throughout the entirety of recorded human history.
Whereas the Templars seek to save humanity from itself by controlling free will, the Assassin Brotherhood fight to ensure the survival of freedom, as it allows for the progression of new ideas and the growth of individuality.
The Assassins have also recently become enemies of the Instruments of the First Willa cult dedicated to re-establishing the Isus ' absolute rule over humanity. These tenets permeated every aspect of the Assassins' daily life, as well as their fight for "peace in all things". The Assassins carry out their duties through political, strategic assassination, in the hope that killing one individual will lead to the salvation of thousands.
They also believe that they fight on the behalf of those who do not possess the abilities, resources, or knowledge to speak out against those who abuse their power.
From this skepticism arises the Assassins' maxim that "nothing is true, everything is permitted," a relativistic assertion designed to provide an answer to the vastly disparate convictions over the perfect solution for humanity's ills: that there is no Truth and any attempted application of a singular ideal on a universal scale is first and foremost unrealistic.
Moderation is therefore an inherent principle of the Assassins, who shun extremism as destructive to society. To treat one belief as absolute is to not only submit oneself to the irrationality of blind faith, but also to cloud oneself from the perspectives of inevitable dissenters. The second component of the creed, "everything is permitted" is an extension of this principle of uncertainty. Because the quantity of variables is infinite, it follows that theoretically, anything within nature is possible, for as long as there is no absolute answer to any query, no impossibility can be ascertained.
Therefore, one must remain vigilantly open-minded to the unexpected and unknown, drawing to a conclusion while being ever mindful of that conclusion's plausibility of error. Beyond being a further vessel for pluralism, Assassins are taught to be watchful of pretensions and their own capability to achieve either great dreams or great destruction.
In essence, this corollary commands one to take responsibility for one's actions towards oneself and society at large. Though the maxim as a whole is actually descriptive, not normative, it nevertheless serves as the threshold into Assassin ethos, wherein reason, not divinity or society, is the source for guidance; dogmatism is discouraged for its potential to brew prejudice and violence, and diversity of thought is respected as the closest conduit to reaching truth.
According to Haytham Kenwaythe Templar Order was "born of a realization" that humanity is fundamentally corrupt, necessitating strenuous control for it to be guided to peace. The Assassins' justify perspectivism with the view that it is logical and realistic, but it is further reinforced ethically by their ardent belief in the "sanctity of life" and each individual's humanity. Assassins perceive societal norms and conventions as artificial structures that can hinder one's partiality and lead to prejudices.
These false boundaries include but are not limited to national borders, gender, ethnicity, social class, and race. As a result, Assassins oppose discrimination of virtually every kind, with physical abuse and slavery being especially abhorrent. Unlike the Templars, who condemn humanity as irredeemably weak-minded and corrupt, the Assassins uphold faith, even love, in humanity as one of their core ideals.
Instead, they argue that humanity must be permitted to undergo the slow and arduous journey of developing tolerance for their myriad differences, a process derided as unrealistic and impossible by the Templars. In the Assassin view, peace is a product of education, not force, and this is only possible without the stringent control over information and society that authoritarians advocate.
Ironically, in spite of the Assassins' optimistic view of humanity as a whole, they do not always retain the same faith for adversaries of human rights; this is the guiding force behind their operations, of which assassinations take primacy.
For many members, compassion has acted as a key motivation, which has paradoxically translated into objectives very often revolving around murder. The Assassins' devotion to free will and their assertion of moral relativism can indeed invite questions of whether or not they and their creed are nihilistic or anarchic.
Their liberal belief system, along with their support of cultural expression and life, would indicate otherwise. The creed itself, however, implies that all values are meaningless.
